Established in 2006 and now the most comprehensive state book awards program in the nation, the contest recognizes and celebrates the year’s best books penned by full-time residents of the Sunshine State, with the exception of submissions to the Florida Nonfiction and Visual Arts categories, whose authors may live elsewhere. The contest categories include General Fiction, Young Adult Literature, Children’s Literature, Florida Nonfiction, Poetry, Popular Fiction, Visual Arts, Spanish Language, and the recently added category for General Nonfiction. Entries, which can be submitted by anyone (e.g. publisher, author or literary agent), must have both an original copyright date between Jan. 1, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2013, and an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Applicants are encouraged to submit their books into competition any time after the competition is launched, and as soon as possible after books are officially published. All entries must be received no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 (this is not a postmark deadline). For general information and the entry form, requirements, and more detailed instructions for the 2013 Florida Book Awards, visit http://floridabookawards.lib.fsu.edu.

FACULTY WRITING CLUB FALL 2013
Join a faculty writing club to start your semester off with a focus on productivity and camaraderie. Having trouble getting into a good writing rhythm? Need to get away from your office to get a change of perspective and a little privacy? Forget the coffee shop--join your colleagues on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in FCTL for a loosely structured writing session. We'll take five or six minutes each week to go around the room and state a goal for the time block and then spend the rest of the time working on our individual projects. Bring your own laptop or use an FCTL computer. And of course there will be coffee. Everyone is welcome!

Ross Wolf
College of Health and Public Affairs Ross Wolf I realize not all students learn by the same pedagogy and therefore have adapted my classes to encourage learners of all types to be involved. I believe learning is governed by each students background knowledge and experiences, but I can present my personal experiences and research into classroom discussions, le...

I am certain all educators think strongly about the kind o...
