FACULTY, STUDENT, AND STAFF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DISCIPLINARY SANCTION REVIEW COMMITTEE
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities is currently seeking volunteers to participate in the Disciplinary Sanction Review Committee. This committee works with UCF students who have been given a sanction such as probation (from conduct cases or upon admission based on behaviors prior to coming to the University), have completed a semester at UCF, and who wish to have the sanction removed or reduced by explaining to the committee how they have gone above and beyond to improve or address behaviors. This is not a hearing of a conduct case, but rather a discussion of what has happened subsequently to assess if a sanction should be reduced or removed. Students can bring supporting documentation which committee members may review, and members may also ask questions of the student after they have discussed their progress and reasoning. The goal is to bring together a neutral to review the request. Our committees must have 1 student, 1 faculty, and 1 staff member from UCF present to speak with the students. The time commitment involves one training session (approx. 30 mins), and then shadowing one committee meeting. After this, participants can sign up on a first-come, first-served basis when meetings are scheduled (approx. one hour and 15 minutes each meeting). ERIC MAZUR, DISTINGUISHED HARVARD OPTICAL SCIENTIST AND EDUCATIONAL INNOVATOR TO VISIT UCF ON MARCH 18TH
On March 18, 2014, CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, will be visited by Dr. Eric Mazur, a distinguished optical scientist and an internationally recognized educational innovator from Harvard University. Faculty across campus are invited to attend a session called “Confessions of a Converted Lecturer,” which will describe Dr. Mazur’s work on interactive teaching and peer instruction. After the talk, which will be held in the Harris Engineering Center (HEC) room 101 at 2:00 p.m., Dr. Mazur will address questions about his new book on this topic until 3:45 pm.
2014 CHUCK D. DZIUBAN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN ONLINE TEACHING

In recognition of the increasing role of online learning at UCF, I am pleased to announce that the 2014 Chuck D. Dziuban Award for Excellence in Online Teaching is open for submissions. This peer-selected award acknowledges the outstanding work being done by UCF's faculty members who teach online. All full-time faculty are eligible, including both tenure-earning and non-tenure-earning. The award’s goal is to recognize our most innovative and effective online faculty. The winner will receive an iPad and registration to the annual Sloan-C conference on online learning. Details about the award and submission instructions can be found at http://award.online.ucf.edu/. FACULTY WRITING CLUB SPRING 2014
Join a faculty writing club to focus on productivity and camaraderie. Having trouble getting into a good writing rhythm? Need to get away from your office to get a change of perspective and a little privacy? Forget the coffee shop--join your colleagues on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in FCTL for a loosely structured writing session. We'll take five or six minutes each week to go around the room and state a goal for the time block and then spend the rest of the time working on our individual projects. Bring your own laptop or use an FCTL computer. And of course there will be coffee. Everyone is welcome!
