Thursday July 24th
Workshop: Flipping the Classroom: The Student Perspective 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Flipping the classroom is a popular teaching technique that makes time for active learning during class time by providing students content to learn between class meetings. At this workshop, benefits and challenges of the method from the student perspective will be discussed as well as strategies for increasing student buy-in and preparing students for success.

STEM EDUCATION READING GROUP MEETING JULY 21st
The group will be discussing the article “Psychological insights for improved physics teaching” published in Physics Today as well as “Who Gets to Graduate?” published in the New York Times. Please join us Monday July 21st from 12-1 pm in Physical Sciences room 445. FACULTY WRITING CLUB SUMMER 2014
Join a faculty writing club to focus on productivity and camaraderie. Having trouble getting into a good writing rhythm? Need to get away from your office to get a change of perspective and a little privacy? Forget the coffee shop--join your colleagues on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in FCTL for a loosely structured writing session. We'll take five or six minutes each week to go around the room and state a goal for the time block and then spend the rest of the time working on our individual projects. Bring your own laptop or use an FCTL computer. And of course there will be coffee. Everyone is welcome!
