Statewide Symposium: Best Practices in Undergraduate Research (October 27 & 28, 2017)
Registration is now open for the 10th Annual Florida Statewide Symposium: Best Practices in Undergraduate Research. We invite you to attend, present and participate in panel discussions. The deadline for submissions is September 8th. New this year, limited registration funds are available to UCF attendees who are presenting at the symposium through What’s Next, UCF’s QEP. Undergraduate Research Grant (OUR Grant proposal deadline is 5pm, Friday, July 28th for the Fall 2017 semester)
Students can apply for grants of up to $500 to support research projects in collaboration with UCF faculty. Group projects may be eligible for up to $1000. A letter of recommendation from the student applicant's faculty mentor is due one week later (mentors are electronically sent this information at the time of submission). Is your undergraduate traveling to present at a conference?
Students accepted as primary or secondary presenters to conferences (in-state, national, or international) are eligible for OUR Student Travel Awards. These awards will provide up to $400 for domestic travel and $500 for international travel, and up to $1000 for group travel. Enroll Students in Independent Research Credit Hours
Please have students that you are mentoring in research and scholarship enroll in independent research 4912, if they are not involved in structured research programs. Students can enroll in various credit hours, including 0 credit hours (at no cost if they are enrolled in other courses). When students enroll in this course, it shows up on your course load, and their transcript.
NEWS FROM FACULTY EXCELLENCE
Faculty Excellence continues its UCF Scroll & Quill Society, modeled after two prestigious faculty clubs established in the 1980s to honor faculty members who brought recognition to UCF through published works and academic prestige. The program honors the Legacy Members of UCF’s former Quill & Scroll societies while extending recognition for contemporary UCF faculty achievements in research and creative activities across all disciplines. The specific focus of this society is to recognize faculty members who have demonstrated sustained achievements (for 10 years or more), which have brought positive national or international attention to the institution.
Applications are now being accepted for new members of the UCF Scroll & Quill Society, and are due to Faculty Excellence by September 22, 2017. All eligible faculty are encouraged to apply. TOPR: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
The editorial board of the Teaching Online Pedagogical Repository (TOPR) is pleased to announce a call for submissions for new TOPR entries from now until September 15, 2017. Selected entries will be announced in October 2017. This peer-reviewed scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) resource is emerging as a go-to destination for faculty/designers in search of ideas for online and blended courses. Each entry is highly focused on one teaching practice with a solid description, concrete example(s), relevant professional practice or research literature, and key words connecting to other practices. REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: INTEGRATIVE LEARNING THROUGH COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH PROJECTS
The community-based research (CBR) initiation grant supports proposals that represent collaborative partnerships among community partners, students, and faculty teams. Projects should advance the development of community partner capacity, student integrative learning through the high-impact practice of undergraduate research, and facilitate the evolution of faculty scholarly identity as it relates to community-identified needs. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S ISSUES CONFERENCE (2018 IWIC WOMEN IN TECH: THE NEXT GENERATION OF ACTIVISTS)
The Women’s and Gender Studies program presents the 3rd international conference on women’s issues. With over 12 countries in the past, our IWIC is a great chance to meet international scholars, present your research, bring your classes and encourage your colleagues and graduate students to participate. Some of the research areas invited are art, health, literature, education, political science, communication, gender studies, youth, leadership, technology, engineering, psychology, folklore, music, photography, documentary, activism, media, rhetoric, history, philosophy, theater and performance. We encourage UCF registered student organizations to table at the event.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH 2017
All faculty, staff, and students are invited to submit a program proposal for UCF’s 2017 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration! The deadline to submit a program proposal is July 28, 2017, and accepted programs will be included in UCF’s Hispanic Heritage Month Calendar (September 15 - October 15, 2017). FACULTY WRITING CLUB SUMMER 2017
Join a faculty writing club to start your summer off with a focus on productivity and camaraderie. Having trouble getting into a good writing rhythm? Need to get away from your office to get a change of perspective and a little privacy? Forget the coffee shop—join your colleagues on Thursday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in FCTL for a loosely structured writing session. We'll take five or six minutes each week to go around the room and state a goal for the time block and then spend the rest of the time working on our individual projects. Bring your own laptop or use an FCTL computer. And of course there will be coffee. Everyone is welcome!
